New Delhi: Indian cricketer Varun Chakravarthy on Sunday made his debut in the One-Day International format during the second match of the bilateral series between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. He dismissed England opener Phil Salt to claim his first wicket in the traditional format of limited-overs cricket.

After proving his mettle in the shortest format of the game by making regular interventions with the set of variations available at his disposal, the leg-spinner from Tamil Nadu was given the task of getting the much-needed breakthrough after England openers showcased composure and grit to put on 81 runs. The exploits were brought to halt by Chakravarthy, the man who is known to deceive the best in the business in the middle overs in T20Is.

The bowler delivered a floater at the full length, with the ball turning away, and all Salt wanted to do was attempt a slog. The execution wasn’t neither neat nor tidy, resulting the ball to go up miles in the sky before getting on to the safe hands of Ravindra Jadeja near the mid-on region.

Watch the dismissal here:

Salt departed for 26 after playing 29 balls, smashing two boundaries and a six. His opening partner Ben Duckett was dismissed on 65 off 56 balls by Jadeja in the 16th over.

Varun Chakravarthy becomes second oldest  ODI debutant

At the age of 33 years and 164 days, Varun Chakravarthy has become the second oldest player to make his ODI debut for the Indian men’s cricket team. Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Farokh Engineer, who made his first ODI appearance against England on December 6, 1991, in Kanpur, holds the record for being the oldest player to be part of India’s 50-over team at the age of 36 years and 138 days.

Varun Chakravarthy immediately impacted the match on his ODI debut, dismissing England opener Phil Salt in his first over. This significant breakthrough followed a strong opening partnership by England.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
