New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe continued his red-hot form, netting in his fourth straight game as Real Madrid edged out Alaves 3-2. The 2024-25 La Liga showdown unfolded at the Santiago Bernabeu, delivering high drama. The French superstar delivered a moment of magic to net his seventh goal since joining Los Blancos in the summer of 2024. With this win, Los Blancos closed the gap to just one point behind league leaders Barcelona ahead of their upcoming clash with Getafe on Thursday.

Lucas Vazquez opened the scoreline for the Real Madrid within a minute. In the 40th minute, Mbappe got himself on the scoresheet. The 25-year-old’s seventh goal since joining Los Blancos was pure beauty with the France striker starting a give-and-go with Jude Bellingham with a heel flick and then picking up the pass inside the box and used his lightning-fast footwork to dance past an Alaves defender before finding the net.

Rodrygo added a third goal early in the second half with a lovely, tight-angled shot, and it seemed like the game was wrapped up. However, some late substitutions from Alaves set up a nervy finish for the defending La Liga champions. With ten minutes remaining, Mbappe requested a substitution due to a muscle ailment, though Carlo Ancelotti later confirmed it was not serious.

Taking advantage of Mbappe’s absence from the ‘BMV’ trio, in the 85th minute Benavidez set up by Guevara hauled one back for the visitors before kike Garcia knocked down a chip by his captain to add a second for them a minute later.

Carlo Ancelotti’s record

Real Madrid held on to avoid an equaliser. With this win, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti also completed his 300th match with the club. Ancelotti now holds the record for the longest unbeaten run of 39 matches as a coach.
