WATCH: Litton Das and Rishabh Pant engage in an on-field spat during Chennai Test

New Delhi: Team India stalwart Rishabh Pant got into an on-field spat with Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das during India’s batting in the first session of the first Test match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Although it wasn’t anything major between the two, an action from Pant seemed to have irked Das who confronted him over it and Pant dealt with him in his own way.

The incident happened in the 15th over when India were batting in the first innings and Taskin Ahmed was bowling to Yashasvi Jaiswal. Starting the over with a fine delivery to Pant, he bowled a good length ball to Jaiswal next, who defended it towards gully. Pant however wanted to steal a run but Jaiswal sent him back. Meanwhile, a throw was already made towards the non-striker’s end, which caught Pant’s pads midway, deflecting and moving towards mid-on.

As a result, Pant and Jaiswal easily ran for a single, when there wasn’t any, adding another run to India’s scoreboard. Das was not at all happy with the Indian wicketkeeper-batter and had a chat with him at the striker’s end and expressed his displeasure. This was due to the general fact that batters don’t usually go for a single whenever such things happen.

Pant, known for his jovial nature, didn’t have any of it and responded to him aptly. Litton went back to take his position for the next delivery. Although unclear, Pant could be heard saying, “Usko pheko na bhai mujhe kyu maar rahe ho? (Throw the ball to the fielder, why hitting me?)”

Indian stars flop, unexpected saviours at rescue

As Bangladesh opted to bowl first to give India a little scare early on, it turned out as they planned as the Indian top order was sent back under 10 overs with the scoreboard looking 34/3 at once. The likes of skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli all went back to the pavilion as Hasan Mahmud wreaked havoc on the Indian batting line-up.

India found their heroes in Yashavi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, who stitched a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket. After Pant’s (39 off 52) departure, Jaiswal had a little partnership with KL Rahul who scored 16 runs and himself got out on 56 runs after facing 118 deliveries. With the scoreboard at 144/6 in 42.2 overs, India were rebuilt on the back of homeboy Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the two bowling all-rounders partnered for over 100 runs for the seventh wicket.

After the completion of 61 overs, Ashwin has already scored his half-century, showcasing tremendous batting skills and utilising home advantage at its best, while Jadeja remains on the way to a fifty.

Litton Das and Rishabh Pant, the two wicketkeepers were involved in an on-field argument happened during the first session of Day 1 at the Chepauk Stadium.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
