WATCH: Rishabh Pant’s heartwarming way of apologising to Virat Kohli for big mix-up

New Delhi: When Team India was on a roll against Bangladesh in their first innings of the second Test being played at the Green Park in Kanpur. After smashing the fastest team 50 and 100 in Test cricket on Monday (Day 4), Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant were in the centre taking the innings forward when both got involved in a terrible mix-up. Pant, who was at fault for making the wrong call for a single, later apologised to his Delhi senior for almost throwing his wicket away.

It all happened during the 19th over of the Indian innings which was bowled by right arm pacer Khaled Ahmed. Pant, who took a single off the first (no ball) delivery, gave Kohli strike for the next ball. What happened next was total jitteriness as Kohli chopped this good length outside off delivery through a thick under edge right next to the pitch and looked for Pant if he was interested.

Pant at the non-striker’s end, first took off but when he saw that Khaled had already reached the ball which was well near the striker’s crease, he glued his steps where he was, leaving a running Kohli midway down the pitch. To Kohli’s good fate, Khaled tried to hit the stumps with an underarm throw from two yards rather than going to the wickets himself. He eventually missed and Kohli escaped what could have been a terrible run-out.

However, Pant was quick to realise his mistake and after it all ended, went to Kohli with a sheepish smile and gave him a hug, which Kohli too obliged with a beaming smile.

Fastest 50, 100, 150,…

Off the very next delivery, Kohli hit a four and took India’s scoreboard to 150, the fastest one by any team in the history of Test cricket in terms of overs taken. India notably broke their own record of fastest 150 in Tests which they established in 2023 in the Port of Spain Test against West Indies. In the same Test, India registered their fastest team 100 and surpassed themselves for the same on the same day.

It was the fastest team 50 (3 overs) for India followed by 100 (10.1 overs), 150 (18.2 overs), 200 (24.2 overs), and finally 250 (30.1 overs), making it a record-breaking day for the nation.

As Bangladesh scored 233/10 in 74.2 overs in their first innings, India replied with a quick 285 on the same day, taking just 34.4 overs and losing nine wickets after which skipper Rohit Sharma declared the innings, taking a 52-run lead. Stumps were called on Day 4’s play as Bangladesh ended their second innings for the day at 26/2 in 11 overs, trailing India by 26 runs.

Virat Kohli nearly survived a run-out opportunity after Rishabh Pant left him stranded midway down the pitch and the southpaw later apologised to his senior in a heartwarming way!  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
