WATCH: Rohit Sharma breaks into tears, Virat Kohli cheers him up after India reach T20 WC final

New Delhi: Team India captain Rohit Sharma was in tears after India stormed into the T20 World Cup 2024 final, pummeling England by 68 runs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday. The semi-final clash was purely dominated by the Men in Blue who didn’t give a single chance to England to gain the upper hand. India will now play South Africa in Barbados on Saturday in an epic final showdown of the T20 showpiece.

As India successfully halted the English run-chase at 103 in 16.4 overs, it was courtesy of the Indian spinners who weaved magic on the pitch to send the English batters packing in succession. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav picked three wickets apiece followed by Jasprit Bumrah’s double strike to help India clinch a 68-run win to head into their third T20 World Cup final.

Post-match, as the Indian team walked back to the pavilion, Rohit couldn’t hold back his emotions while sitting in the dressing room. As the players approached him, he placed his hand on his eyes as he broke into tears and Virat Kohli cheered him on with a pat on his back. Suryakumar Yadav did the same next as the Indian players moved into the dressing room and the Indian skipper looked on.

India avenge wounds of 2022 T20 World Cup

In what turned out to be a replica of the events of the 2022 T20 World Cup, this time Team India knocked England out of the ongoing marquee event, having reached the same fate in the previous edition at the hands of England. It was a successful revenge for the loss endured in Adelaide, Australia nearly two years back as India eased past the Englishmen defending 172 runs.

England skipper Jos Buttler had invited India to bat first and Rohit Sharma struck his second consecutive half-century at the event, scoring 57 runs off 39 deliveries laced with six fours and two sixes. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya chipped in with valuable contributions to help India post a challenging total of 171/7 in 20 overs in a rain-delayed knockout clash.

Rohit Sharma couldn’t hold back his emotions and was consoled by Virat Kohli after India headed into the T20 World Cup 2024 final, beating England by 68 runs in Guyana on Thursday.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
