New Delhi: Team India wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson channelled his inner MS Dhoni fan as he urged the legendary wicket-keeper batter to not retire from the Indian Premier League (IPL) anytime soon. Samson said he always feels ‘thoda aur’ (a little more) whenever he hears talks about Dhoni’s retirement from the IPL.

Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2019, continues to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) despite turning 43. The former India captain who is synonymous with CSK’s success in the IPL, continues to remain a vital cog in the franchise’s line-up and will return for the Men in Yellow in the upcoming 2025 edition. Dhoni was retained by CSK as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.

Sharing the stage with the man himself during the launch event of the former India captain’s app powered by Single.id in Mumbai, Samson made his feelings known regarding talks surrounding Dhoni’s retirement. The Team India star said he doesn’t want the CSK legend to be quitting the T20 league anytime soon.

“Mere man mai aa raha tha ki jab Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) IPL khelne aate hai, people keep talking about when is he retiring. But I am like thoda aur bhaiya, thoda aur,” Samson said at the event, leaving his idol Dhoni smiling.

I want to enjoy my last few years like a child: MS Dhoni

Meanwhile, Dhoni opened up about his future in the IPL and said he wants to enjoy his final few years in cricket like a child. Despite having retired from international cricket nearly six years ago, Dhoni continues to be a guiding force in the CSK squad and has also done well as a wicket-keeper and a finisher.

He scored 161 runs at a strike rate of over 220 in IPL 2024 last year while producing some exceptional cameos against quality bowling attacks. Dhoni said he wants to enjoy the final lap of his cricketing career like he used to when he played the sport in school but admitted it’s easier said than done when playing in a league like the IPL.

“I’ve retired since 2019, so it will be quite some time. What I’ve been doing in the meantime is I just want to enjoy cricket for the last, whatever few years, you know, I will be able to play,” said the former CSK skipper.

“I want to enjoy it, how I did as a child when I was in school. When I lived in a colony, 4 o’clock (in the afternoon) was sports time, so we’ll go and play cricket more often than not,” he added.
