New Delhi: Pakistan’s franchise-based T20 league, Pakistan Super League, was indefinitely postponed due to the escalation cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, which now seems to be subsided. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made a request to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) of the UAE to allow them to host the matches there but the request was declined.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the ECB has credited the BCCI and ICC chief Jay Shah for helping them to reject the request made by Pakistan. An example of the close ties between India and UAE, an ECB official was quoted as saying in the report that they owe it to the Indian cricket board and former BCCI president Jay Shah.
The close relations between India and UAE date back to the Covid-19 time when one and a half IPL seasons was staged in the UAE. ‘We owe it to the BCCI and Jay Bhai, ‘ an ECB official told Cricbuzz, acknowledging the Indian role in the matter.
IPL meets similar situation
Much like the PSL, the IPL 2025 in India was suspended for one week amid escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. However, both the nations announced ceasefire on Saturday evening and the cash-rich league is expected to resume in the country in the days to come after the Indian cricket board arrives at a conclusion. The PSL will not have a similar future as uncertainty looms over the resumption of the Pakistan league.
Unlike the IPL, which can bee hosted outside India as BCCI does not have any financial constraint, PSL can’t be hosted due to PCB’s financial constraint. Four league games and as many play-off matches were left to be played in the PSL.
