New Delhi: South Africa scripted history by making their first appearance in the ICC World Cup final. They defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on June 27, Thursday. Proteas comfortably chased the target in just 9 overs.
Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markaram scored unbeaten 29 runs and 23 runs respectively. Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissed Quinton de Kock and also surpassed Wanindu Hasaranga’s record for the most wickets in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
South Africa received appreciation from the former players and fans for their brilliant performance in the tournament. Former Proteas pacer Dale Steyn expressed his feelings by saying “It’s emotional down here”.

South Africa have played seven semi-finals in the ICC World Cup but they never qualified for the final, it will be their first appearance in the final of any ICC World Cup. Proteas are unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup with eight wins on the trot.
South Africa’s top-notch bowling performance
South Africa restricted Afghanistan to just 56 runs. This is Afghanistan’s lowest score in T20 Internationals. Afghans recorded the lowest score in the history of the T20 World Cup semi-final.
Apart from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, no Afghani batter has stepped up and took the responsibility. Both the openers stitched three hundred-run partnerships in the tournament. Afghanistan’s batting performance has been poor in this T20 World Cup 2024, but their bowlers performed exceptionally well.
