West Indies clinch series with 30-run win over South Africa in 2nd T20I

New Delhi: West Indies beat South Africa by 30 runs in the 2nd T20I to win the series 2-0 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on Sunday. This is a seventh consecutive T20I series win for the Windies over the Proteas as three-fers from Romario Shepherd and Shamar Joseph ensured the Caribbean side went over the line and firmly asserted the home dominance. Having conceded the Test series 1-0, the hosts will now aim for a series sweep.

South Africa had won the toss and invited to Rovman Powell-led side to bat first which scored 179/6 in 20 overs to set up a reputable target. The Proteas looked to level the series, getting a decent start from the openers Reeza Hendricks (44 off 18; 6 fours, 2 sixes) and Ryan Rickelton (20 off 13; 2 sixes) but couldn’t continue the innings for longer.

Skipper Aiden Markram scored 19 off 9 while Tristan Stubbs and Rassie van der Dussen struck 28 off 24 and 17 off 24 respectively. The lower middle order and the tailenders went back to the pavilion with single-digit scores as a collapse of 7 for 20 in 35 balls knocked the Rainbow Nation out. Joseph and Shepherd picked three wickets each, Akeal Hosein getting two and Matthew Forde and Gudakesh Motie picked one apiece to wrap things up for South Africa at 149 in 19.4 overs.

A clinical performance from the West Indies as they register a series-clinching victory over South Africa in Trinidad 🙌
