New Delhi: Team India will square off with South Africa in an epic final battle of the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday. After a stellar run in the ongoing event, both teams have maintained their respective winning streaks which will come to an end for one of the twos. South Africa beat Afghanistan in the first semi-final while India defeated England to set up the final meeting with the Proteas.
Meanwhile, the weather in Barbados doesn’t look promising for the all-important clash as rain threat looms large over the match. There have also been reports of the match getting interrupted due to a tropical storm. The fans might get to witness a rain-affected game, bringing another DLS result, which has been the case for a few games held in the Caribbean during the second leg.
Washout scenario
There has been continuous chatter among cricket fans over the scenario if rain washes out the IND vs SA T20 WC 2024 final. But… before reaching to the conclusion, it is important to know that the ICC has allotted an extra time of 190 minutes on Saturday to try and complete the game. Both teams need to bat at least 10 overs for a winner to be declared.
The Barbados weather for Saturday states that a thunderstorm is on the cards with decent precipitation and may last for up to two hours. The time falls under the extra time provided by the ICC but if the rain gods turn out to be cruel, it will be a rain-curtailed match. If the rain goes a step further and the final match is on the verge of a washout, the ICC has kept a reserve day to complete the game.
Reserve day
The match will only go into Sunday if at least 10 overs each is not possible on Saturday even with extra time. The game, if started, will resume from where it left off on Saturday and won’t start from scratch. The timing of the start on the reserve day remains the same (8:00 pm IST), though rain remains on the card for Sunday as well. However, it is comparatively less, specifically during the match hours than what is expected later in the day.
What if it’s a washout on the reserve day as well?
If it rains cats and dogs on Sunday as well that the match isn’t completed on the reserve day, both teams shall be declared joint-winners.
What if it is a tie?
A Super Over will be brought in as the tie-breaker and if that also ends in a tie, there will be another Super Over and so on until a result is achieved. If rain leads to the abandonment of Super Over after a tied game, the two teams will be declared joint winners.
