What happens if RCB vs KKR IPL 2025 clash is washed out by rain?

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League 2025 is set to resume on Saturday after being suspended for more than a week due to the tensions between India and Pakistan. The remainder of the cash-rich league will begin with a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 17.

However, as per weather reports, rain is expected to play a spoilsport in the entire match and wash it out. While the entire cricketing fraternity and fans would not want the game to be washed out and would be eagerly wishing for a full match, it all depends on the weather gods. Let’s take a look at the scenario as to what will happen if the match is washed out.

What happens if RCB-KKR match is washed out?

According to the IPL rules, if a match is washed out due to rain and no result is possible, one point is awarded to each team. Both the teams share the points as there is no reserve day for a league contest. With the race to the playoffs heating up, the implications of a wash out in today’s match would be different.

If today’s RCB vs KKR IPL match is abandoned due to rain, then KKR will be eliminated from the playoffs race. The defending champions currently have 11 points and just two games remaining. If the game is abandoned, Knight Riders will get one point which will take them to 12.

Even if the franchise is to win their remaining league stage game, they can get to a maximum of 14 points which won’t suffice for a playoff qualification. If RCB secures a win, then they will qualify for the playoffs stage with 17 points. They sit on the second spot on points table currently with 16 points.
