New Delhi: Star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja paid a heartening tribute to his late mother, sharing a sketch on social media where he can be seen holding the T20 World Cup trophy and standing alongside his beloved mother. Jadeja was a part of the title-winning Team India squad that lifted the elite T20 World Cup trophy last month in Barbados, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Beating South Africa in the final, India ended their 17-year-long wait for another ICC T20 trophy and 13 years for a World Cup.
Jadeja, who has been a regular for Team India across formats for years now, lost his beloved mother back in 2005 when he was just 17 years old and became a part of the Indian U19 team that would later win the U19 World Cup in 2008. Taking to his social media account on Instagram, Jadeja recalled his mother through a heartfelt post which he captioned, “Whatever I’m doing on the field.. it’s a tribute to you.”
Jadeja calls time on T20I career
As India won the T20 World Cup 2024, stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from T20I cricket soon after the final match. A day later, Jadeja too joined the seniors and announced his retirement from the T20 internationals. The veteran dropped an emotional post and said that winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true and that it was the “pinnacle” of his career.
“With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support,” Jadeja wrote.
He represented Team India in 74 T20Is since his debut back in 2009 as he scored 515 runs at an average of 21.46 with a top score of 46 not out. Being an excellent all-rounder, he picked up 54 wickets at an economy rate of 7.13. Just like Rohit and Virat, who won’t be a part of the T20Is anymore for the Men in Blue, the troika of seniors will remain the core of the Test and ODI Indian teams.
