Telangana Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the Congress government is committed to making Hyderabad a cosmopolitan city and allocated Rs 10,000 crore for the development of the city.
The funds allocated will be used for Old City Metro, Airport Metro, Regional Ring Road, Musi river front development and the setting up of HYDRAA is in focus.
Funds have also been allocated for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) which stands at Rs 3,065 crore, 500 crore for Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA), 3,385 crore for Metro water works, 500 crore for Metro Rail, 200 crore for ORR, 50 Crore for MMTS, 500 crore for extension of old city metro among others.
New corridors for Metro:
The state government is proposing 5 extended corridors for the metro at a cost of Rs 24,042 crore. The Metro will be extended to the old city and will be connected to Shamshabad Airport and extend corridors from Nagole to LB Nagar, Miyapur to Patancheru, LB Nagar to Hayath Nagar, FM said.
Regional Ring Road:
Areas up to Hyderabad and Outer Ring Road will be identified as core urban region and special plans will be made for their development. The outer ring road is considered as the city boundary, FM Bhatti Vikramarka said in his speech.
The proposal of the government is to upgrade the long Sangareddy-Thupran-Gajvel-Chautuppal road and the 189 km long Chautuppal-Shadnagar-Sangareddy road in the southern region to be declared as national highways. The Regional Ring Road connects the north-south and east-west parts of Hyderabad city with the national highway network.
Establishment of Hyderabad Disaster Prevention and Asset Protection Authority (HYDRAA):
He also made a case for the establishment of a unified organization for disaster management under ORR. Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts including GHMC will come under its purview.
Coordinating with national and non-state organizations to take measures to prevent and respond to urban disasters and take immediate rescue measures in the face of any disaster situation. Hyderabad Disaster Prevention and Asset Protection Authority (HYDRAA) is responsible for monitoring these affairs.
Development of Recreation Zones, Pedestrian Zones, People’s Plazas, Children’s Theme Parks, Entertainment Zones along Musi River Basin has been proposed and will be modelled after River Thames in London.
