New Delhi: The cricketing world saw Virat Kohli at his peak during the 2016-2018 period, where the star Indian batter accumulated maximum runs. Kohli was on a run-making spree during the three years and went on to make and break multiple records. The former Indian skipper scored more than 1000 runs in Test cricket in each of the three years.
Out of the three calendar years, 2017 proved out to be an exceptional year for the Indian cricket icon as he scored 1059 runs in 10 matches at an impressive average of over 75. The run-machine, as he’s popularly known, scored more than 5 centuries in the calendar year with a best score of 243 runs. During the first Test match against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in February 2017, the visiting team was hit by a Kohli storm.
Kohli devastates BAN to break massive records
Virat Kohli went on to break the records of Sir Donald Bradman and Indian legend Rahul Dravid during the series opener. The former Indian captain, who was in terrific form, scored his fourth successive double ton in four successive series, breaking the records of Bradman and Dravid, who has done it in three consecutive series.
Virat Kohli achieves multiple feats
By virtue of Virat Kohli’s double ton and brilliant efforts from some other batters, India achieved the record of becoming the first team to post three successive scores of 600-plus. Going past Bradman and Dravid wasn’t the only feat Kohli achieved in the Hyderabad Test match. Kohli also became the only cricketer in the world to average above 75 in all the three formats of the game since January 2016.
Kohli scored 1168 runs in 15 innings including fours tons and two fifties in the 2016-2017 home season, surpassing Virender Sehwag’s record of scoring the most runs in a home season for India in the Test format.
