Which eye drop can help  Indians do away with reading glasses? News9 Plus Decodes

A new eye drop could help billions of people aged between 40 and 65 do away with their reading glasses. The good news is that the miracle eye drop will soon be available in India.

PresVu eye drops, developed at Entod Pharmaceuticals’ R&D centre in India, received the final approval from the Drug Controller General of India on September 3rd.

Earlier the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation’s Subject Expert Committee had recommended the product.

Essentially, the drops fight a condition called Presbyopia. To lend some perspective, it is a major breakthrough achieved by a home-grown pharma maker. In the United States, just one drop, called Vuity, has received the FDA nod to treat age-related blurry vision.

What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is the gradual loss of the eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects, according to Mayo Clinic. It’s a natural part of ageing that usually manifests itself in the early 40s and worsens until about age 65. Presbyopia affects between 1.09 billion and 1.80 billion people worldwide. In India, nearly 45% of adults above the age of 40, who suffer from presbyopia, need reading glasses.

What is the science behind the miracle eye drop?

The drop not just eliminates the need for reading glasses but also lubricates your eyes. The drops use an advanced dynamic buffer technology, which allows them to adapt quickly to pH value of the tears, ensuring consistent efficacy and safety for long-term use. The pH of tears is generally around 7.45, but it can range from 7.14 to 7.82.

When will the eye drops be available in India?

PresVu eye drops will be available in the domestic market in the first week of October.  One vial of PresVu eye drops is likely to cost 345 rupees. The vial is designed to last about a month.

How frequently can the drops be used?

Don’t do self-medication and use the drop only after consulting an ophthalmologist. The medication is typically used once every day. Their effects can last several hours. Only one drop of the drug should be put in each eye every day. An additional drop can be put in each eye three to six hours after the first drop.

Nearly 45% Indians, above the age of 40,  suffer from presbyopia.  Health Health News: Latest News from Health Care, Mental Health, Weight Loss, Disease, Nutrition, Healthcare
