New Delhi: The Paris Paralympics 2024 is all set to bid adieu on Sunday with the Olympic flame to extinguished for the final time in the closing ceremony. Before the closing ceremony of the 19th Paralympics, the final day, which is the 11th Day of action, has to offer a total of 14 gold medals.
The Indian contingent, who has witnessed its best Paralympics campaign, will participate in only one of the 14 medal events on the final day. Para canoer Pooja Ojha will compete in the women’s KL1 200m semifinal event. If she manages to qualify for the final then she will raise hopes for India’s 30th medal in this edition.
The Indian para canoeing contingent hasn’t seen any success so far, though a few qualified in the final events. Prachi Yadav finished eighth in the women’s VL2 200m final with a timing of 1:08.55s.
On the other hand, Yash Kumar failed to make the final of men’s KL1 200m event, ending fifth in the semifinal with 1:02.03 timing. Only the top three in the semi-finals qualify for the final.
Pooja Ojha’s event is the last chance for India to open their medal account in the field of para canoeing. However, the chances are slim with her last event record shows that the 38-year-old did not finished in the Kayak event the last time she participated in 2022, according to International Paralympic Committee. One cannot rule out the possibility of a surprise as this Paralympics has been all about India bringing ample of stories filled of grit and determination.

India added two more medals on Saturday to its most successful campaign of Paralympics. Navdeep Singh’s gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F41 class along with Simran Sharma’s bronze medal in women’s 200m T12 class extended India’s medal tally to 29 medals after the action of Day 10 in Paris.
With seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals, India has bagged a total of 29 medals. The Asian country is currently placed at 16th spot after the action of Day 10.
