Winder: In the recent fatal high school shooting in Georgia that claimed the lives of four, 2 students and 2 teachers, a teen boy was arrested and taken into custody on Wednesday. The alleged gunman, identified as Colt Gray, opened fire at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, in the morning, almost two hours after classes began at the school.
In the incident, some nine others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Who is Colt Gray?
Gray, 14, is also a student at Apalachee High School who allegedly opened fire on Wednesday at around 10:20 am.
In a press brief after the shooting incident, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said that a school resource officer engaged Gray after he opened fire and surrendered. He added that Gray realised that if he did not give up himself, he would be shot. The officials added that they are investigating the matter and trying to figure out the motive behind this act.
“Once they encountered the subject, the subject immediately surrendered to these officers, and he was taken into custody.”
The Sheriff added that the teen boy will be charged with murder and will be predicted as an adult.
The local law enforcement is coordinating both the investigation and charges with District Attorney Brad Smith of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit.
“The priority right now for us, within this investigation, is to gather all the facts,” Smith said.
“This is a murder investigation,” he added.
FBI Investigated Gray in 2023 Over School Shooting Threats
Gray, the alleged gunman who killed four people at Georgia high school, was interviewed in connection to the online school shooting threats, the bureau revealed.
As per a post by the FBI Atlanta branch, in May 2023, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received several tips about online threats to commit a school shooting — with the harrowing remarks including photos of guns.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office located Gray, then 13, and interviewed him and his father. However, Gray’s father told the officials that he had hunting guns in the house — but Gray didn’t have unsupervised access to them.
