New Delhi: Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced his new film, Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal and starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri as leads with KJo producing the film. But, do you know who is the Dhadak 2 director Shazia Iqbal? Well, let’s find out!

Who is Dhadak 2 director Shazia Iqbal?

Shazia Iqbal has worked as Production Designer for 13 years in the film and advertisement industry in India. She is an Architecture graduate and left sheltered office job after being enticed by the idea of storytelling.

Her debut short film Bebaak won her the Best Debut Director, International and Audience Choice award at the 35th Sao Paulo International Shorts Film Festival. The film also won the Audience Choice award at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, Best Actor at ShortShorts Film festival and Asia, Tokyo, Best Short Narrative at Chicago South Asian Film festival, New York Indian film festival and Jury Special Mention at the International documentary and Shorts film festival of Kerala.

Her debut feature film, Blood Circle, was selected for Film Independent’s Global Media Makers 2019 Residency lab in Los Angeles. She is also the lead Production designer for International Emmy nominated, India’s first original Netflix series, Sacred Games and Emmy nominated mini-series Lust Stories.

Born on November 8, 1982, she has studied ‘Directing for films’ at MET film School, London.

Shazia Iqbal’s Bebaak

Based on true events, the 20-minute short film Bebaak is a glimpse into the life of an aspiring architecture student Fatin Khalidi, who is reprimanded by a religious leader for not wearing a hijab during a scholarship interview. In fact, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap gave a shoutout to the “controversial” film and said that films like Bebaak introduced him to different worlds. He further added that the world need more education and less religion as has “become merely a tool in the hands of powerful to peddle their agenda”.
