New Delhi: Salva Marjan is a 25-year-old F1 racer from Perambra, Kerala. She is set to become the first woman from India to join Formula 1 academy. Marjan went to the United Arab Emirates recently for her training and opportunities in the F1 academy. Marjan has had a passion for car racing since her childhood and she was very much influenced by Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
She came from an average middle-class family in a small town in Kerala, but her dream is way higher. The most challenging part of Marjan’s career was her financial status and society’s expectations but her parents didn’t give up and stood by her side all the time. Marjan also shared about how her parents were treated by the society “They were lectured on how to bring up girls, how girls were not supposed to take up such risks or be so independent. But my parents never differentiated between us based on our gender. Neither did they set any limits for me” said Salva.
Marjan admitted that she had to maintain distance from her loved ones to pursue her dreams and she had to deal with mental strains by living in UAE . Marjan started her professional career in 2018 in India, she joined Formula LGB racing and then went on to compete in F4 Indian and F4 UAE Championships in 2023.
Salva Marjan faces difficulties in male-dominating sport
The F1 sport is generally male-dominating because of the mental and physical pressure, Marjan showed her mental toughness by coming out from a small town to the greatest feat, and with her training in UAE, she finds herself as physically fit as she handled intense pressure in the extreme temperature inside in a racing car in the race.
Marjan will now be looking forward to representing India in the grand stage of Formula 1 and will motivate young girls to take part in F1.
