Aston Villa break 30-year drought with consecutive home wins over Man City

New Delhi: Aston Villa manage to edge past the champions Manchester City in the 17th matchday of Premier League 2024/25. It is the first time since 1993 that the Villans won their second consecutive home fixture against Manchester City. The visitors looked extremely shaky throughout the game and Villa made no mistake in taking full advantage of their weaknesses on the pitch. The match ended 2-1, where Unai Emery’s men were razor sharp with their finishing and their flow of passes were something that penetrated City’s fragile defence on numerous occasions.

Morgan Rogers starred the show tonight as he was the best player in that Villa starting 11, where he first assisted Jhon Duran’s opening goal in the first half and then managed to score another himself in the second half. Despite the fact that Phil Foden opened his account for the season with a last minute goal for City, the final whistle blew and it was one win in 12 games for City. Above all, this was the second consecutive time that the Sky-blues have lost at Villa Park.

Last season, Villa managed to pull off a 1-0 win, with Leon Bailey scoring the only goal of the game to sink Manchester City at Villa Park. This win helped Villa climb a spot above their opponents, as they climbed to to fifth while Pep’s City dropped a place below them.

Aston Villa defeated Manchester City 2-1 to pass the Cityzens and climb to fifth place in the Premier League. Although Unai Emery’s team was the superior one, the headlines will probably focus on City’s dismal performance, which has continued with their sixth league loss. Villa took the lead in the 16th minute when Duran completed a fantastic flowing play, punishing the visitors for their lack of decisiveness in the first half.

With Rogers home-free, Tielemans turned to slot a fantastic pass through the City backline after Martinez had given him the ball. Unselfishly, the former Cityzen squared, allowing Duran to finish comfortably. Rogers added a goal to his assist in the 65th minute to score goal number two. McGinn and string-puller Tielemans cleverly dovetailed, and the Scot found the 22-year-old to drive a superb, low left-footed drive into the bottom-right corner. Foden’s late strike gave the dismal City performance a modicum of respectability, but it was little more than a comfort as the visitors rallied for a late comeback.

Aston Villa broke their 30 year long curse by securing back-to-back home league victories against Manchester City for the first time since 1993.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
