Who Was Jaafar Khader Faour, Hezbollah Commander Killed by IDF in Lebanon?

New Delhi: The Israeli military on Sunday, eliminated a top Hezbollah Commander, who was responsible for carrying out deadly attacks that claimed lives of several children in Israel, in an airstrike on southern Lebanon. This development was confirmed by the  Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on X.

The Hezbollah Commander, identified as Jaafar Khader Faour, was targeted at the Jouaiyya area  in southern Lebanon.

Taking to X, the IDF wrote, “The Commander of the Hezbollah Nasser Unit’s Missiles and Rockets Array, Jaafar Khader Faour, was eliminated in the area of Jouaiyya in southern Lebanon.”

“Faour was responsible for multiple rocket attacks toward the Golan, including an attack that resulted in the deaths of Israeli civilians from Kibbutz Ortal, an attack on Majdal Shams which killed 12 children and injured many and the rocket attack on Metula last Thursday, which resulted in the deaths of 5 civilians,” the post further read.

The IDF claimed that slain militant, a commander of Hezbollah’s Nasser Brigade rocket unit, was responsible for “terrorist attacks carried out from eastern Lebanon, from which the first rocket launches toward Israeli territory were fired on October 8, under his command.”

According to a media reports, Hezbollah did not immediately comment or confirm Faour’s death.

As per IDF, the Hezbollah commander was killed along with the commander of its drone unit in the regional division.

Meanwhile, Israeli naval commandos raided the northern Lebanon late Friday and captured a Hezbollah official, according to a media reports.

The raid were carried out approximately 140 kilometres (87 miles) north of Israel’s maritime border with Lebanon. The IDF late on Saturday confirmed that the Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit was involved in the operation.
