New Delhi: In India’s last hope for earning a medal and adding to their current tally of 5 at the Paris Olympics 2024, freestyle wrestler Aman Sehrawat will fight it out in the 57kg category for a bronze medal on Friday night.
While the elusive gold medal remained far-fetched in this edition, as the only hope Neeraj Chopra bid adieu to the Paris Games with a silver, Aman would aim to give his best shot in the bout to claim another medal for the country and make it worth remembering as the last accolade earned by India at the Summer Games.
Meanwhile on Thursday, Aman who was a contender to give India a gold and silver, unfortunately lost the semifinal bout which shattered the hopes of Indian fans. The Indian wrestler went down against Japan’s Rei Higuchi 10-0 in the last-4 clash, which has forced him to contest in the bronze medal match. The first-seed from Japan ended the bout by technical superiority inside the first three minutes.
Earlier, Aman had beaten North Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov by a 10-0 margin in his round of 16 bout earlier in the day before registering a 12-0 technical superiority win over Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakanov in the quarterfinal.
Who will Aman Sehrawat face in Paris Olympics bronze medal bout?
Aman, who is just one step away from giving India another medal, will take on Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz in the bronze medal match of the men’s 57kg category in the wrestling competition on August 9, Friday. The bronze medal bout will take place at 10.45 PM IST. Cruz was a bronze medallist in the Pan American Games last year. Sehrawat’s bronze medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024 will be telecast on the Sports18 1 SD and Sports18 1 HD TV channels.
