As the war progressed, Lord Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, realised that Barbarik’s immense power would bring the conflict to a swift conclusion, which was not in the best interest of the world. To address this, Krishna disguised himself as a Brahmin and approached Barbarik to test his loyalty.

Krishna asked Barbarik how he intended to ensure that the weaker side would triumph in the war. Barbarik replied that he would continue to switch his support to the weaker side as the balance of power shifted. To test Barbarik’s commitment, Krishna asked him to prove it by offering his head as a sacrifice.
Without hesitation, Barbarik agreed and offered his head. Pleased with his devotion, Krishna granted him a boon, allowing him to be worshipped as a deity by the name of Khatu Shyam Ji. It is believed that anyone who prays to Khatu Shyam Ji with a pure heart and clear conscience is blessed with good fortune, prosperity, and success.

Khatu Shyam Ji is also known as Haare ka Sahara, meaning ‘Helper of Losers’ He is renowned for fulfilling the wishes of his devotees who approach him with true devotion.
