New Delhi: Undoubtedly, one of the major highlights of Cannes 2024 was the impromptu jigs by the team of All We Imagine As Light on the red carpet. The award-winning film – featuring actress Chhaya Kadam – bagged the Grand Prix, the second highest honour, at the prestigious film festival.
But did you know, after the visuals of their unscripted dance went viral on social media, the Laapataa Ladies star was teased about the same? Chhaya told a news agency that someone from Mumbai tried to joke by saying, “You were dancing as if you were in your own courtyard.”
“Why not,” Chhaya replied. She further stated that it was a huge achievement just to be part of the main competition after 30 years. “Why follow protocol?” Chhaya asked. She mentioned that it was a gesture to showcase their joy and happiness.
Chhaya added that when they stood there even the photographers urged them to continue dancing as there was so much cheerfulness all around. She also heard the Marathi song Gulabi Saree playing as they stepped out of her car for the premiere.
On the professional front Kadam, Chhaya was recently seen on the silver screen in Laapataa Ladies and Madgaon Express. Her performance in All We Imagine As Light is also being highly lauded.

The storyline of the Payal Kapadia directorial revolves around a Mumbai-based nurse whose life takes an unexpected turn after receiving a rice cooker from her estranged husband. On the other hand, her roommate is struggling to find a private spot to be with her boyfriend. Chhaya portrays the character of a widow who is being forced out of her home by property developers.
Chhaya Kadam on social media mentioned the saree she wore for her first appearance at Cannes was a tribute to her late mother. Even the nose ring she donned in most of her appearances belonged to her mother.
