New Delhi: Shubman Gill was not named in the playing XI as India won the toss and opted to bowl first in the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele Stadium in Pallekele on Sunday, July 28. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed at the toss that Gill will be missing the game and will be replaced by wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson.
As India look to make it two wins in a row in the 2nd T20I, they were dealt with a blow ahead of the start of the game. Skipper Suryakumar revealed at the toss that Gill will be missing the game due to neck spasms. Gill opened the batting for India with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 1st T20I and scored 34 off 16 balls.
“Gill misses out as he woke up with a neck spasm, Samson comes in,” Suryakumar said at the toss, confirming Gill’s absence from the game.
India will be looking to seal the three-match series with a second straight victory in the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka. The visitors hammered the hosts by 43 runs in the series opener on Saturday to go 1-0 up in the three-match rubber. Suryakumar and Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat while Riyan Parag and Arshdeep Singh shone with the ball in India’s comprehensive win.
