Will Liverpool’s inactivity in this summer transfer window come back to haunt them?

New Delhi: We have seen some big names joining the premier league this season as the English teams have already made some big signing this summer transfer. Aston Villa have made some brilliant signings this time around, and even after losing Douglas Luiz, one of their key players from last season, they have managed to recruite some good players including the likes of Amadou Onana from Everton, Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, Ross Barkley from Luton Town and some more players to rebuild their squad.

Manchester United have certainly made the most out of this window as they managed to steal the 18-year-old Losc Lille defender Leny Yoro, who was also linked with Real Madrid a couple of weeks back. Besides, They also managed to sign a very talented Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna to add to their firepower for next season.

Arsenal on the other hand, signed a gem of a defender by the name of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. Manchester City also had a decent window where they signed an extremely talented winger from Troyes, who had a fantastic loan season with Girona, Savio. Tottenham managed to sign Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall this summer.

However, one team that has looked extremely quite in this summer transfer is Liverpool. The Reds’ summer window didn’t look even close to how it was in the previous summer transfer winow where they made some big signings including the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mcallister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo.

Concerns for Liverpool

The Premier league starts in a few weeks time and Liverpool are yet to make a new signing. It seems like a major concern for Arne Slot as their team have not quite filled in a replacement for the departing Joel Matip, leaving the Reds with a massive gap to fill in at the back. There are no proper players to replace Virgil Van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate on the pitch as Joe Gomez has looked extremely injury prone throughout the last few seasons. Besides, Jarred Quansah has looked good for England and the games he has played for Liverpool, but he is still new to the system and the youngster would be needing some more time to settle in as a starting centre back.

The experience of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate might sort the issue, but their absence might cause the Reds some problems in their backline. Besides, Mohammed Salah’s move to Saudi is closing in, and even if he decides to stay for say, another two season, the age factor might not allow him to hit his peak form Liverpool’s need for a new right winger has become a priority as despite the presence of Luiz Diaz, it is not certain that he would flourish there. Besides, the Colombian has had a pretty bad injury record for Liverpool.

It can be annoying for many fans, how Liverpool have recently handled their transfers. The submitted a bid of £110 million for Moises Caicedo last summer. It was approved but through one means or another, Chelsea managed to obtain his signature, but the Reds never used that money for anything else.

Therefore, even though Liverpool have acknowledged the requirement of a holding midfielder, they haven’t quite managed to acquire a top-tier holding midfielder, despite the signing of Wataru Endo. However, the returning Fabio Carvalho might give Arne Slot an asset to look at whenever needed.

Arne Slot’s preferences

Arne Slot has not sent any sort of a formal request to the Liverpool board, thus it seems likely that he won’t be looking to sign a player of his preference. This can be seen as a positive as well as a massive negative aspect for the Reds. If Arne Slot is looking to trust his current players, that also involve certain academy products in the Liverpool squad, he might be give them more game time that would actually do good for them. This would be a big step towards the development of  these young academy players, who might shine under the guidance of Arne Slot.

However, there is a downside of this experiment as Slot’s tactics might not suit the style of play that the team is used to. Since there isn’t a single player in the squad that Slot is familiar with, it might take him some time to develop the trust and considering the fact that he needs a set of players who have already adapted to his style of play, this transfer window might come back to haunt him.

Just a few weeks left for matchday one of 2024-25 premier league season, Liverpool are yet to make a signing. Will this inactivity in the transfer window haunt Arne Slot in the future?  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
