Will Mayank Yadav partner Jasprit Bumrah in Border-Gavaskar trophy? Jay Shah sheds light

New Delhi: Indian pacer Mayank Yadav, with his ability to breach the 150-plus kmph mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, sparked a discussion earlier this year. This soon led to former Indian cricketers and other experts in the country requesting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to include the young sensation in the Indian team squad.

However, things were not meant to be for Mayank this year as soon after the cash-rich league got over, an injury which he suffered during the 2-month long event brought a halt to his dreams. While these months did not have any concrete news about the young paceman, former Indian player Wasim Jaffer recently reignited the old debate amid the concerns for India over another seamer for the Border-Gavaskar series in December.

Jay Shah addresses concerns

BCCI secretary Jay Shah addressed the debate and shed light on the inclusion of the pacer in the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Speaking to Times of India, Shah shut the speculations around Mayank’s entry into the Indian team as he revealed that he continues to recover from the injury he incurred during the IPL and is currently in the NCA.

“I cannot give you any answer on Mayank Yadav as there is no guarantee whether he will be in the team or not. But he is potentially a good fast bowler, and we are looking after him. He is currently in the NCA,” he said.

Earlier, Jaffer during a question and answer session with fans on social media site X said that India will have a great opportunity to secure a third-straight series win Down Under if the fast bowling trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj stays fit. Jaffer then teased the possibility of a toss-up between Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav as a fourth seamer for the tour, who could partner with pace spearhead Bumrah on the tour.

Pacer Mayank Yadav made his debut in Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year for LSG, where he played four matches, picking seven wickets.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
