The Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism.

Is the stock market closed on Guru Nanak Jayanti?

There will be a long weekend for investors in India as the stock market will remain closed for trading on November 15, which is a Friday on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. After that, the markets will have a routine weekend holiday and will reopen on Monday, November 18, 2024.

People can go to the BSE website and click on the ‘Trading Holidays’ option to check the complete list of stock market holidays in 2024. In November this year, there are three stock market holidays. One holiday was on November 1 on the occasion of Laxmi Pooja. The other two stock market holidays are on November 15 for Guru Nanak Jayanti 2024 and on November 20 for the Maharashtra Assembly General Elections. After that, the stock market will remain closed on December 25 for Christmas. Normally, the market remains closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has prepared a holiday list to which every bank in India has to adhere. According to the list, banks will remain closed on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15. On the same date, banks will remain closed in some states on the occasion of Karthika Purnima/Rahas Purnima including in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Hyderabad, Orissa, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Telangana and Rajasthan.
