New Delhi: The 2024 Wimbledon men’s singles semi-finals is around the corner with the tennis fans guaranteed nothing short of blockbuster fixtures. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will take on World No.5 Daniil Medvedev in the first knockout game of the day, while seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic will meet Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the later part of the day. Both the matches will take place at the Centre Court in London.
The match between Alcaraz and Medvedev is a repeat of last year’s Wimbledon semi-final with the former eventually won in straight sets before basking the glory as the third youngest player to lift the Wimbledon Championships. Alcaraz holds a 4-2 head-to-head record over the Russian with his latest success coming in the Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000 event in March this year.

Regardless of the psychological edge, Alcaraz need to be wary of a resurgent Medvedev, who comes fresh from upstaging top-seed player Jannik Sinner, an avenge for his Australian Open final loss. The 2021 US Open champion will be the man to beat as he eyes for a seventh Grand Slam final appearance.
On the other hand, Novak Djokovic will aim to match his old rival Roger Federer’s eighth All England Club championship. The Serb has already equaled Federer’s feat of 13 Wimbledon semi-final appearances after Australia’s Alex de Minaur pulled out of their quarter-final clash owing to a hip injury. Victory on Friday would take the 37-year-old Serb to his 10th final at the tournament, and overall 37th at the Slams.
Musetti reached his maiden Grand Slam appearance after knocking out Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinal. He hasn’t enjoyed enough success against Djokovic, trailing by 1-5 in their head-to-head record. The Australian’s only win against the 24-time Grand Slam champion came during the Monte-Carlo ATP Masters 1000 last year after being a set down. The Aussies youngster will have his task to cut out on Friday to reach his first Grand Slam final.
