Women’s Day Special: Rapid Fire with Sania Mirza and Taapsee Pannu

Mumbai: Do women really need a day to celebrate themselves? No. But, yes, we definitely need a day to remind everyone of our worth and our capabilities in case, this male-dominated and patriarchal world forgets to do this.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year to honour women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements worldwide while also advocating for gender equality. It serves as a reminder of the progress women have made and the challenges that remain in achieving gender equality.

On the evening of March 7, News9 Live interviewed two such empowered women- Former ace tennis player, Sania Mirza and Bollywood actress, Taapsee Pannu during the launch of the Aukera Jewellery event at the Taj President Hotel in Mumbai.

Rapid Fire with Sania Mirza

An interesting and quick Rapid Fire round by Lifestyle Reporter, Chhaya Gupta with Sania Mirza:

1. What do you think about women’s empowerment?

Sania Mirza says, “We have come a long way but empowerment comes from within for any woman. You need to believe in your capabilities and you need to command that equality and space.”

2. How has motherhood changed your life?

Sania says, “In every way, I didn’t know that I had this selfless love in me, to be honest. As a player, we have to be selfish and think about our matches, but when the child comes in, I realise I have this love in me where I don’t care about myself anymore. I just care about the little human being in front of me. That’s what, motherhood has really taught me and to become a better human being.”

3. Future of tennis in India

Sania says, “I think it is looking better but we have some way to go. This question has been asked to me for the past 20 years and I have been coming empty. I am hoping to not come empty with this question anymore.”

Taapse says, ” I am also waiting. I am hoping that the light and sunshine that we saw when she was on court we don’t stop seeing that.”

Saniya continues, ” We need that more. You know, Taapsee is also involved in tennis.”

Taapsee adds, “I have that wanna-be athlete in me.”

Rapid Fire with Taapsee Pannu

Taapsee says,” Whoever is giving me work next. Whichever film is releasing next is my dream role.”

3. 3 Life mantras Taapsee swears by

Taapsee says, “My life, my rules.”

Taapsee also mentioned during the event, “She looks up to female actors like Sharmila Tagore and Priyanka Chopra.” On pay disparity in the industry, she adds, “The audience does advance book for a male-dominated movie or male lead film however for a female lead film, it is rarely seen, hence the audience is equally responsible for the pay disparity in cinema.”
