Worked very hard for this: Rahul Dravid’s son Samit reacts after India U-19 selection – WATCH

New Delhi: Rahul Dravid’s son Samit Dravid said he was grateful his hard work paid off after earning his maiden call-up in the India U-19 team for their upcoming series against Australia U-19. Samit, a prodigious all-rounder, is set to walk in his father’s footsteps, who is a bonafide legend of Indian cricket. The 18-year-old is currently playing for Mysuru Warriors in the Maharaja T20 Trophy in Karnataka.

India U-19 will square off against Australia U-19 in a home series consisting of three One-day matches and two four-day matches. The matches will be played in Puducherry and Chennai in Tamil Nadu with the series getting underway from September 21. Samit has been named in the squads for both the one-day and the four-day matches against Australia.

Reacting to his selection, Samit said he was elated to earn his maiden call-up in the U-19 team while thanking all for their wishes. “First of all, I am very happy to be selected and thank you for all your wishes. I think I am feeling great, I worked very hard for this moment,” Samit said in a video shared by Star Sports Kannada on X.

Samit Dravid’s performances in domestic cricket

Samit, who bats in the middle order, hasn’t enjoyed a great time in the Maharaja T20 Trophy, his first senior men’s T20 tournament. The youngster has managed only 82 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 114 for the Mysuru Warriors and has been utilised with the ball. However, he was one of the best performers for Karnataka in the Cooch Behar Trophy earlier this year.

Samit played an instrumental role in helping Karnataka win the Cooch Behar Trophy 2023-24 with his impressive show with the bat and the ball. The right-hander scored 362 runs in 10 innings at an average of 36.20 and was the 4th highest run-getter for his team in the tournament. He also picked up 16 wickets in 15 matches, including two wickets in the final against Mumbai.
