NCA plays vital role in Indian cricket
The NCA is an important part of the Indian cricketing structure and has played a crucial role in nurturing new talent. Apart from being the primary venue for the centrally contracted players to recover and rehabilitate after injuries with proper training and practice matches, the NCA also acts as a pathway for many young cricketers to international cricket.
In recent times, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul among others have all undergone rehab at the NCA after recovering from their respective injuries and surgeries. The NCA is currently headed by former India batter VVS Laxman, who took over from Rahul Dravid in 2021. Dravid left NCA after being appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Dravid’s reign as the head coach of the Indian team came to an end last month after he inspired India to glory in the T20 World Cup 2024. While Dravid is unlikely to return as the NCA head, Laxman is reportedly set to be replaced by former India batting coach Vikram Rathour.
