New Delhi: Ilia Topuria shocked the MMA universe by suddenly vacating his featherweight title and announcing his move to the Lightweight division. Topuria dethroned one of the legends of the featherweight division Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 in 2024 and after that became the first fighter to knock out Max Holloway in the UFC.
Earlier this week UFC President Dana White announced that Topuria vacated his title and will permanently move to Lightweight division. After Topuria departs from the division, it opens the door for many fighters in the division.
MMA fans pop up Holloway’s name after Topuria’s departure but the fan favorite shuts down all the rumors of his next featherweight title run. White announced the next featherweight title match for the UFC 314 event.

Volkanovski will battle out against Diego Lopes for the vacant title. Holloway denied the news of coming back to the featherweight division as he will not cut the weight again in the UFC and will permanently move to the Lightweight division. Islam Makhachev is the reigning Lightweight champion in the UFC and he will defend his title once and then will go on to become a double champion in the UFC.
Max Holloway’s UFC return
After denying all the rumors of coming back to the featherweight division, Holloway might go behind Topuria as he wants to avenge the knock-out loss. He will be permanently performing in the Lightweight division and it opens up more options for Holloway.
Holloway will make his return in May-June and his potential opponents will be among Arman Tsarukyan, Dustin Poirier, and Michael Chandler. Holloway is currently holding the BMF title and it will be an option for him to defend the title against any of the Lightweight contenders in the UFC.
