WTC Final: Markram, Bavuma put South Africa on cusp of history as Australia stare at rare defeat

New Delhi: South Africa had one hand on the World Test Championship (WTC) mace after skipper Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram dominated day three at Lord’s in London. Chasing the target of 282 runs, the Proteas lost two early wickets as Mitchell Starc removed Ryan Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder early in the innings, but Markram and Bavuma forged a 143-run partnership for the third wicket to put South Africa on top in the summit clash.

Markram notched up his 8th Test hundred, probably one of his best knocks in the longest format, while Bavuma scored an unbeaten 65 runs off 121 balls.
