New Delhi: India have reclaimed the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 cycle following their comprehensive win against Australia in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. India have now displaced Australia as the No.1 team in the current WTC standings.
India have played 15 matches, having won nine, lost five and drew one to accumulate 110 points and a win percent of 61.11. Australia, on the other hand, played 13 matches with eight wins and four losses along with a draw. The Pat Cummins-led team has 90 points and 57.69 win percentage.
Updated WTC Standings
India’s No.1 position doesn’t guarantee them a favourable spot in the World Test Championship final in June with the likes of Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South Africa right below them with close margins.

New Zealand will play three Test matches against England at home, starting on November 28 in Christchurch. South Africa and Sri Lanka will next play two Test matches in November-December window. Both the series will be crucial to shape the WTC Standings before India play their second Test against Australia in Adelaide from December 6 to 10.
What does India need to qualify for the WTC final?
The win in Perth was a stepping stone for India to keep their WTC final chances alive. However, Rohit Sharma and Co. cannot afford complacency at this stage given that all teams are very close to each other on the points table. India needs to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy by a heavy margin of either 5-0, or 4-0 to outrightly qualify for the final at Lord’s.
Here are other scenarios if India end up with different results
3-1/3-0/4-1 – India will hope England draw one of their Test matches against New Zealand.
2-0 – India will hope England wins at least one Test against New Zelaand.
3-2 – India will hope that England wins one Test against New Zealand and Sri Lanka ends up drawing one with Australia.
2-1/1-1/1-0 – India will hope that New Zealand should not win more than one Test against England and Sri Lanka should draw against Australia
2-2 – India will hope for New Zealand to win one match against England and Sri Lanka must win the Test series against Australia with a 2-0 or 1-0 margin.
India have reclaimed the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 cycle after 295-run win against Australia in Perth in the Border Gavaskar Trophy opener. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
