WV Raman shares cryptic post amid intensified battle for India coach job against Gautam Gambhir

New Delhi: The hunt for Team India’s new head coach is all geared up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and two contenders – Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman are reportedly locked for the position. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) interviewed the two candidates for the role on Tuesday and the second round will be held on Wednesday. While Gambhir remains the top choice, Raman’s presentation reportedly impressed CAC the most.

Amid the tight battle for the role that Rahul Dravid will be vacating post the completion of India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024, Raman shared a cryptic two-word post that has left the netizens in wonder over its meaning. “Oh Dear”, posted Raman on the social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night. Many commented that Raman is hinting towards the intense battle for the role but what is he actually implying isn’t yet known.

The interviews were conducted over a Zoom call with Gambhir, Raman, and CAC head Ashok Malhotra attending the virtual conversation. “Yes, Gambhir appeared for the interview with the CAC. One round of discussions happened today. There is another round expected tomorrow. Raman was interviewed after Gambhir. It was also on Zoom. He also gave his presentation on his vision and road map on Indian cricket. The interview went for around 40 minutes. There were some initial questions by the committee before they looked at the presentation,” a BCCI source informed news agency PTI.

Gambhir – the favourite?

However, weights are more on Gambhir’s side as he is believed to be the only candidate who is in contention and his announcement as the new India head coach is a mere formality that could happen in the next 48 hours. The specifics of the virtual interaction aren’t yet known but the discussion was believed to be focused on the road map for the next three years which features three ICC events across the formats.

42-year-old Gambhir recently guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 trophy as the team’s mentor. India’s current head coach Rahul Dravid will step down from the role after the T20 World Cup 2024. Team India is currently in Barbados for the Super 8 matches after remaining unbeaten in the group league stage and is scheduled to face Afghanistan on Thursday.

Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman were reportedly interviewed by the CAC on Tuesday for the job of India Men’s head coach. Amid the battle, Raman’s cryptic post has set the social media abuzz.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
