New Delhi: Young Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has made some remarkable achievements ever since making his international debut last year. He has bettered a long-standing record held by legendary player Sunil Gavaskar since 1973.
Jaiswal made 56 and 10 runs, respectively, in the combined innings of the ongoing first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai. The 22-year-old now aggregates 1111 runs from 18 innings at an average of 68.53 after playing 10 Test matches.
He broke Gavaskar’s 51-year-old record with most runs by an Indian batter after 10 Tests. The former Indian player scored 978 runs from 20 innings in his first 10 Tests from March 1971 to January 1973. In fact, Jaiswal took just eight Test matches to surpass Gavaskar’s tally of the first 10 Test matches.
Jaiswal has also entered an elite list with the recent achievement. He is among top five batters to score most Test runs after 10 matches. Only the great Sir Donald Bradman (1446), and the West Indies duo of Everton Weekes (1125) and George Headley (1102) have scored more runs than the Indian youngster after 10 Tests from their respective debut.
Most runs after 10 Tests
Don Bradman (Australia) – 1,446 runs
Everton Weekes (West Indies) – 1,125 runs
George Headley (West Indies) – 1,102 runs
Yashasvi Jaiswal (India) – 1,094 runs
Mark Taylor (Australia) – 1,088 runs
In March this year, Jaiswal became the fastest Indian batter to score 1000 Test runs in nine Tests and 16 innings during the fifth Test against England in Dharamsala.
