Yashasvi Jaiswal ruled out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semifinal match – Report

New Delhi: Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal is reportedly said to have been ruled out of Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy semifinal fixture against Vidarbha in Nagpur, starting on Monday (February 17). Although there is no official confirmation from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) regarding the development, it could be a huge blow to Mumbai as they were boosted by the 23-year-old’s return.

According to a report by The Times of India, the left-handed batter suffered from an ankle pain during Mumbai’s training session and was uncomfortable while batting in the nets, a source close to the development said. The player will leave for BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for the treatment of his injury.

Will India name replacement for Jaiswal as reserved players in CT squad?

Following his axing from India’s Champions Trophy squad, Jaiswal was named in the 18-member squad by the MCA in what will be the repeat of last year’s Ranji Trophy final match between Mumbai and Vidarbha. However, the recent reports indicate that the player won’t be able to help the Ajinkya Rahane-led team in their title defence.

Jaiswal was named in the provisional 15-member squad of India for the Champions Trophy, but later was replaced by leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the squad, though both players made their One-Day Internationals debut in the home bilateral series against England.

Jaiswal was still named as one of the three non-travelling substitute players in the Indian squad along with pace bowler Mohammed Siraj and all-rounder Shubman Gill. The question is whether Jaiswal will be continued as the reserved player even though he isn’t required to be with the squad in the UAE.

Even the Mumbai selectors are unlikely to name a last-minute replacement for Jaiswal in the squad as he was included as the 18th player. He played in Mumbai’s penultimate group stage match against Jammu & Kashmir, scoring 4 and 26 in a losing cause. He wasn’t part of the team’s remaining fixtures as he was part of the national team for the England series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the rising Indian star, is reportedly out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semifinal due to an ankle injury sustained during training. He will be travelling to Bengaluru for the treatment.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
