You have one more event: Gagan Narang consoles Sarabjot Singh after he misses out on final closely

New Delhi: India’s Chef de Mission Gagan Narang consoled shooter Sarabjot Singh with a heartfelt message after he closely missed out on a spot in the final of the men’s 10m air pistol event at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday, July 27. Sarabjot was a medal contender for India in the event and did well in patches during the qualification round but failed to make the cut in the final.

Sarabjot and Arjun Singh Cheema took part in the qualification round of the men’s 10m air pistol event for India. While Sarabjot finished ninth with a total score of 577 points, Cheema finished 18th with 574 points. Sarabjot shot one less inner ten than Germany’s Robin Walter, who finished 8th and failed to go through.

Former India shooter Narang took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a heartfelt note for Sarabjot and said no one could understand the youngster’s pain better than him. He also wished him luck for the mixed team event and backed him to bounce back stronger.

“No one can understand how Sarabjot feels like I do. I faced a similar situation missing out on a count back in 2008 Beijing Olympics,” Narang wrote on his ‘X’ handle.

“Chin up @sarabjotsingh30 you have one more event.. You got this.. come back stronger and conquer the world my friend,” he added.

Check out Gagan Narang’s post for Sarabjot Singh:

Narang won a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle event at the 2012 London Olympics after finishing with a total score of 701.1. He missed out on the silver medal by a whisker, finishing behind Italy’s Niccolo Campirani, who scored 701.5 to take the silver.

Sarabjot will get a shot at redemption

Sarabjot will get a shot at redemption at the Paris Olympics as he will have a chance to win a medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event where he will be pairing up with the talented Manu Bhaker. Sarabjot and Bhaker have done well together in the past and will be hoping to clinch a medal in Paris.

While Sarabjot drew a blank in the men’s 10m air rifle event, Bhaker made it to the final of the women’s 10m air pistol event. The 22-year-old shot 580 in qualifications to finish in the third spot and become the first Indian to make it to the final of the women’s 10m air pistol final at the Olympics.

Bhaker will be aiming for glory when she competes in the final of the women’s 10m air pistol event on Sunday, July 28. Bhaker has a chance to end India’s 12-year-long drought in shooting at the Olympics. India last won an Olympic medal in shooting in 2012 and the shooters have since drawn a blank in the next three Olympics.
