New Delhi: Tilak Varma starred as India beat England by two wickets in the 2nd T20I at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday to bag their second win in a row and go 2-0 up in the ongoing five-match series between the two sides. Tilak played a sublime knock of unbeaten 72 off 55 balls to help India successfully chase down a tricky target of 167 runs.

India were left in a spot of bother after losing half their side for 78 runs inside the first ten overs before Tilak combined with Washington Sundar to stage a rescue act. Sundar scored a valuable 26 off 19 balls as the duo shared a 38-run stand for the sixth wicket. While Axar Patel failed to step up, Tilak joined hands with tail-enders Arshdeep Singh (6) and Ravi Bishnoi (9) to take India home with his gritty knock under pressure.

Rare double for India

India achieved a rare double with their victory as it turned out to be the second time that the Men in Blue bagged ten wins in a row in T20Is at home. India were unbeaten in their last nine games on home soil heading into the second T20I against England in Chennai and extended their winning run to ten matches with a 2-wicket victory.

India’s 10-math unbeaten run at home started with their victory in the 4th T20I against Australia in the home series in December 2023. India swept Afghanistan 3-0 at home before the T20 World Cup 2024 before clean sweeping Bangladesh 3-0 in October last year. India bagged two wins in a row in the ongoing series against England to make it ten wins on the trot at home in the shortest format.

Tilak Varma’s stellar run in T20Is

Tilak’s unbeaten 72 was his third fifty-plus score in his last four appearances for India in T20Is. The talented left-hander has enjoyed a stellar run in the shortest format having notched up a brilliant 428 runs in his last four innings, including two centuries and two half-centuries. Tilak has cemented his spot at no.3 for the Men in Blue and will be looking to continue his fine form in the remaining three T20Is against England.
