New Delhi:
Bayern Munich will not be wearing their iconic red home kit when they take on Celtic in the UEFA Champions League. The Bavarians are set to face the Scottish side in a crucial two-legged tie, but UEFA has ruled that their red jersey does not meet broadcasting standards.
Despite no colour clash with Celtic’s green and white hoops, UEFA has banned Bayern’s home kit due to the dark numbers on the back. According to reports, the numbers do not offer enough contrast for viewers, making them difficult to read during live broadcasts. As a result, Bayern will have to use their away kit for this important fixture at Celtic Park.

The issue first came to light in Bayern’s last Champions League match against Slovan Bratislava, where they had to wear their away kit at home due to UEFA’s decision. The governing body enforces strict kit regulations to ensure visibility and readability, especially for referees and broadcasters. Bayern’s current home kit features dark numbers, which UEFA believes do not provide enough contrast.
If Bayern want to use their home jersey in future Champions League matches, they must modify the shirt numbers and names to meet UEFA’s requirements. Until then, the club will continue wearing alternative kits in European games.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to the first leg at home, where he expects a strong atmosphere. “We earned the right to play this game, and we’ll have 60,000 fans behind us,” he said. “It’s a big test, but we’ll give everything to make it difficult for Bayern.”
Bayern, led by Vincent Kompany, are dominating the Bundesliga and will be eager to prove their strength in Europe. However, they will have to do it without their traditional red kit, following UEFA’s strict kit policies.
