New Delhi: Indian batting prodigy Sameer Rizvi has played a crackling knock in the Men’s U-23 State A Trophy played between Uttar Pradesh and Tripura at the Kotambi Stadium B Ground in Vadodara on Saturday. The 21-year-old was unbeaten on 201 to propel his team to a commendable score of 405 for 4 after Uttar Pradesh were asked to bat first.
While batting at No.4, the Uttar Pradesh junior team captain led from the front, belting 13 boundaries and 20 sixes from his willow to smash the fastest double century in the age-group level format. It should be noted that the U-23 matches aren’t categorised under List A cricket and hence this record won’t come under the spotlight.
New Zealand batter Chad Bowes holds the record for smashing the fastest double-hundred in List A cricket. He created the record after hitting 200 runs off 103 balls while playing for Canterbury against Otago Volts in the Ford Trophy match this year in October in Christchurch.
Sameer’s fireworks was backed by opener Shaurya Singh (51) and Adarsh Singh (52) as Uttar Pradesh went past the mammoth 400-run mark. In response, Tripura were restricted at 253 for nine after sublime bowling show by Kunal Tyagi (3 for 48) and Vijay Kumar (2 for 34). Uttar Pradesh won comprehensively by 152 runs.

The Uttar Pradesh youngster has made the world notice of his batting prowess right from a young age. He was picked by five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024 auction for an astonishing sum of INR 8.4 crore. He played eight matches in the IPL 2024 season and scored 51 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 118.60.
The youngster was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction in November this year. Rizvi was picked up by Delhi Capitals in the auction for a sum of INR 95 lakh, a massive contrasting signing for the player after bagging a lucrative deal in the previous season.
