39 runs in 1 over: Samoa’s Darius Visser breaks Yuvraj Singh’s all-time record in T20Is – WATCH

New Delhi: Samoa wicket-keeper batter Darius Visser etched his name in history after smashing six sixes in an over in his side’s clash against Vanuatu to break the record for most runs scored in an over in a T20I match. Visser helped shatter the long-standing record held by Yuvraj Singh by helping Samoa get 39 runs in the 15th over of their innings against Vanuatu in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup EAP sub-regional qualifier.

Visser went berserk against Vanuatu pacer Nalin Nipiko in the 15th over of Samoa’s innings at the Garden Oval No.2 in Apia, Samoa as he slammed six sixes against him. Nipiko conceded three no-balls in the over to assist Visser in breaking the all-time record for most runs scored in a T20I match.

The over helped Visser go past Yuvraj, who famously smashed six consecutive sixes against England’s Stuart Broad to score 36 runs from an over in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. Visser also surpassed the likes of Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee and the Indian pair of Rohit Sharma-Rinku Singh, who have also scored 36 runs in an over in a T20I match.

Visser started the over from Nipiko with three consecutive sixes on the first three deliveries. Nipiko bowled a no-ball on the 4th delivery and Visser capitalised on the free hit to smash his 4th six in the over. Nipiko managed to bowl a dot ball on the 5th legal delivery to restore some sanity but it did little to affect Visser’s momentum.

Nipiko bowled back-to-back two dots balls next and the Samoa batter dispatched the second free-hit for a six into the stands before finishing with another six on the final delivery of the over to help his team get 39 runs from it. The 39-run over from Visser saw him break the long-standing record held by Yuvraj.

Visser, who was playing only his 3rd T20I for Samoa, smashed a brilliant knock of 132 runs off 62 balls laced with 5 fours and a whopping 14 sixes, only 4 short of the most sixes hit by any batter in a T20I match. His sensational knock helped Samoa post 174 runs on the board in 20 overs. Vanuatu rode on opener Nipiko’s 52-ball 73 to come close to the target but failed to get past the line.

Vanuatu were restricted to 164/9 in 20 overs as they lost the game by 10 runs. It was Samoa’s second victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup EAP sub-regional qualifiers as they continue their quest to make it to the T20 World Cup 2026. Samoa wicket-keeper batter Darius Visser helped in shattering Yuvraj Singh’s long-standing record for most runs scored in a single over of a T20I match with his six sixes against Vanuatu pacer Nalin Nipiko.
