New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCI) announced a handsome reward of Rs 125 crore for the Indian cricket team after Rohit Sharma & Co. defeated South Africa in the final to lift the T20 World Cup 2024 title. India ended an 11-year-long ICC trophy drought with their memorable triumph, sending the nation into jubilation.
The Rs 125 crore prize money announced by the BCCI covered everyone from the T20 World Cup-winning squad players to the selectors, support staff and the backroom staff. However, many had questions about how the entire prize money will be divided. As per a latest report in Indian Express, the details have emerged regarding the distribution of the prize money.
As per the report, all 15 members of India’s squad will pocket Rs 5 crore each. Sanju Samson, Yashasvai Jaiswal and Yzvendra Chahal were the only three players in the original 15-man squad, who didn’t get to play a single game throughout the T20 World Cup 2024. But the trio will be awarded as much as the rest of their teammates and take home Rs 15 crore each.
Head coach Rahul Dravid and his coaching staff, who played a key role in India’s memorable victory will earn Rs 2.5 crore each from the Rs 125 crore prize pool announced by the BCCI. Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathore, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip will receive Rs 2.5 crore each.
Indian team’s strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai, three physiotherapists, two masseurs and three throwdown specialists will also be rewarded. They will get Rs 2 crore each from the BCCI for their services to the team during the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rs 1 crore each for reserves and selectors
India travelled to the US for the T20 World Cup 2024 with a total of four players in their reserves. Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan accompanied the main 15-man squad as back-ups. Gill and Avesh returned home after the US leg of the tournament while Rinku and Khaleel stayed with the team throughout the competition.
Though their services were not required throughout the tournament, each of the four players will receive Rs 1 crore each as prize money from the BCCI. The five members of the Ajit Agarakar-led senior national selection panel will also get Rs 1 crore each from the board.
The Indian team’s logistics manager, video analyst, media officers and BCCI staff members, who travelled with the team for the T20 World Cup 2024, will also receive cash rewards.
