New Delhi: The fate of the Champions Trophy 2025 will be decided on Saturday as the International Cricket Council (ICC) postponed the crucial meeting to be held on Friday. The meeting, which was supposed to take place at 4 PM IST on November 29, was postponed by a day and no decision has yet been taken over the tournament being held in a hybrid model.
The apex cricketing body was set to hold a virtual meeting with several other executive members of different boards to finalise the future of the upcoming Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) continue to maintain their solid stance of not agreeing for a hybrid model and instead insisting that the entire tournament takes place in their nation.
India, however, has refused to travel to the neighbouring nation, just like they did in the Asia Cup 2023. The global governing body, in the past few days made attempts to convince the PCB on the tournament being held in hybrid model but PCB boss Mohsin Naqvi has maintained a clear stance and not agreed to bow down to the request.
Government denies permission to BCCI
After Pakistan were named as the hosts of the showpiece event featuring 8 teams, the Indian government denied permission to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to send the team across the border due to the political tensions between the two nations. As soon as ICC conveyed Pakistan Cricket Board the stance of the Indian cricket team, PCB sprung into action an demanded a reply from India with reason for not agreeing to travel to Pakistan.
A few days back, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi put forward a categoric statement where he said that Pakistan stand by their decision and if India does not change their mind, they will also not travel to the country for playing cricket. Earlier in 2024, Pakistan travelled to India for the T20 World Cup. The last time India travelled to Pakistan was for a Asia Cup Super Four clash back in 2008.
