New Delhi: The crucial ICC meeting for the Champions Trophy 2025 has again been postponed on Saturday, according to media reports. The meeting was shifted from December 5 to December 7 and it was expected that the schedule will come out today, but the meeting will only take place now when BCCI comes up with an official response, media reports suggest.
Reports are also doing the rounds that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in all likelihood will be in the Indian cricket board’s favour but nothing can be assured as of now. Both the ICC and PCB are waiting for a response from the Indian cricket board that they are ready to offer a hybrid model to the Pakistan team when ICC events are hosted in India.
After the first meeting, PCB slightly softened the stance and accepted the hybrid model for the ICC event but in return, set some conditions for the BCCI saying that the team also be given the same option of playing their ICC matches, which are scheduled in India, at a neutral venue. The wait now becomes longer as no official date is out yet when we can expect the BCCI to issue a statement in the regard.
Logistical issues cause delay
According to another report published in cricket.one, logistic issues have also cropped up which have delayed the schedule announcement of the Champions Trophy. It is being learnt that finalisation of the hybrid model should come first and it should followed with ICC announcing the schedule but no concreate information is yet available.
The logistic issue pertains to the additional cost that would be incurred in scheduling matches when a co-host country is introduced into the current scenario. With almost three months remaining for the event, BCCI and PCB continue to be at loggerheads.
