Liverpool’s six wins from six: Are they favourites to win the Champions League?

New Delhi: Arne Slot’s team have had a dream run in 2024/25 season so far in particular with the European competition. With their win over Girona, they have now registered six wins in as many games. While their win against Girona wasn’t convincing, their campaign though is a complete different story, as they now have ensured themselves a spot in final-16 of the tournament.

Critics have widely noted that they have great momentum with them and are forerunners when it comes to having good form. Slot now has the chance to give his top players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk a break in the remaining league games of the Champions League.

Liverpool are leading in both the Champions League and Premier League are leading the table. What everyone is worried, of course, is if they will run out of this form of play, with their performance in Estadi Montilivi looking much below for this season. Their single goal came from a penalty coming from Salah.

Though Manchester City and Arsenal had a better chance of winning the Champions League, Liverpool have since given them a run for their money. Slot has achieved the feat of becoming the only manager to win all six of his first Champions League games with a Premier League team, after taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer. There is little doubt that their performance in the season has set high standards for the Reds, and that explains the disappointment for Slot after yesterday’s narrow win.

Slot after the game, noted that the victory was far from “satisfying.” Slot noted that the Reds didn’t play with the intensity that they are, in general, known to play with. Plus, they were not aggressive when they lost possession and hence felt they lacked control over the game. Still, the game wasn’t all disappointment, with Liverpool’s number-one keeper making a comeback after being on the sidelines since early October.

Becker ensured that his side extended their clean sheets streak to five games in the tournament, making five saves in the first half of the game. After the game, Slot called Alissson one of the “best goalkeepers in the world”. In the Brazilian’s absence, Caoimhin Kelleher was quite impressive, though it was his error against Newcastle last week that led to Liverpool playing a 3-3 draw.

Liverpool’s main weaponry has been their attacking front, with Salah yet again in the centre of Liverpool’s win. He has one of the best goal involvements this season across the top five European leagues, having made the sum of 28 goals and assists this season. On match day six, the Egyptian international became the 11th player to cross 50 Champion League goals, including four goals he scored during qualifiers.

The 32-year-old’s contract is due to end at the end of the season, and after much spotlight on this subject, there are reports of Liverpool finally making an offer as interest from other clubs continues to grow. In the last six games, he has scored seven goals across the competition. With the manager’s fortunes favouring his bravery, the forward line firing and defence almost impenetrable, one could be making the assumption that Liverpool are the favourite to win.

Liverpool have managed to win all six games in Champions League so far and with their key players firing, look solid for a European glory.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
