Virat Kohli becomes 2nd Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to achieve rare milestone

New Delhi: Virat Kohli became only the second Indian after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to complete 100 matches against Australia in international cricket. Kohli achieved the rare milestone after being named in India’s playing XI for the ongoing third Test against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane. India won the toss and opted to bowl first in the all-important Test match.

India made two changes to their playing XI for the Brisbane Test as Harshit Rana and R Ashwin were dropped for Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja. The high-profile five-match Test series is currently tied 1t 1-1 with both teams managing a win apiece in the first two Test matches. India will be looking to repeat history at the Gabba after breaching Australia’s fortress at the iconic venue on their last tour Down Under.

Kohli, who played his 99th international game against Australia in the 2nd Test between the two teams in Adelaide, completed 100 matches against the hosts across formats after stepping out to field for India on Day 1 of the 3rd Test. Tendulkar (110) is the only other Indian player to have played 100 or more matches against Australia in international cricket.

MS Dhoni is at the third spot on the list having played 91 matches against Australia across formats in his career. Kohli is also only the second Indian player after the Master Blaster to complete 100 matches against any team in international cricket. Tendulkar played 109 matches against Sri Lanka and 110 against Australia in his international career.

Indians with most matches against a single team:

110 – Sachin Tendulkar v Australia
109 – Sachin Tendulkar v Sri Lanka
100 – Virat Kohli v Australia
91 – MS Dhoni v Australia
90 – MS Dhoni v Sri Lanka

Virat Kohli will hope to get back among the runs

Kohli will be hoping to get back among the runs for India in the third Test at The Gabba after his disappointing show in Adelaide. Despite having a fabulous record in Adelaide, Kohli was dismissed cheaply in both innings of the 2nd Test. He managed to score only 18 runs across the two innings in the Adelaide Test and failed to continue his purple patch after his ton in the series opener in Perth.

Kohli will be hoping to bounce back firmly in the third Test in Brisbane and get another big knock behind his back to put India in control in the match.
