Premier League: Man United score two quickfire goals to sink toothless Man City

New Delhi: As they declare a truly amazing comeback, United supporters, players, and coaches all celebrate wildly when the final whistle sounds. Manchester defeated City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in a Manchester derby. It looked as though City, who had dominated this match in previous years, would defeat their fiercest opponents once more as Josko Gvardiol headed them ahead in the first half after a short corner by Kevin De Bruyne was passed back to him by Ilkay Gundogan. Then the Belgian then played it into the United box as the ball deflected off Amad Diallo, to find the Croatian international who headed it home to make it 1-0.

United really struggled to get their chances as the creativity just wasn’t there and City maintained the possession well to avoid any sort of casual passes in the midfield. The chances were rare for either of the two sides as the game looked rather dull until Bruno Fernandes squandered a great chance to equalize for the visitors.

Unfortunately for United, the ball rolled wide of the left post as their skipper beat the offside trap and clutched onto Hojlund’s throughball before dinking over Ederson in the 74th minute of the game. However, Nunes’s moment of insanity gave United a chance to get back into the game, although they hardly ever threatened until the very end. In an effort to make amends, the former Wolves player initially underhit a pass back to Ederson. He then brought down Amad, forcing the referee to give United a penalty kick, which Fernandes gladly took.

Amazingly, the game didn’tend there as things got even better for the visitors seconds later. Lisandro Martinez lofted a pass over the top for Amad, who nipped the ball over Ederson before nudging home to cause a commotion among those wearing United red as they won the derby.

The victory moves United up to 12th place, while City’s problems persist as they are still nine points behind fifth-place leaders Liverpool. Guardiola will be baffled by his team’s ongoing struggles, as they have only won once in their past 11 games across all competitions. Tough times for the Cityzens as they will be even more eager to win their next outing.

Player of the match: Amad Diallo

Amad Diallo was without a doubt the player who caused City the troubles from the very beginning. Despite the fact that United were nowhere close to their attacking best, Amad had a wonderful time on the pitch and he was rewarded handsomely in the end. The 22-year-old was heavily involved in any sort of forward move that United made throughout the game. However, his contribution didn’t stop there as he was the one who earned the penalty after a moment of absolute madness from Matheus Nunes, who didn’t quite know what he was doing there.

The penalty was eventually converted by the skipper, Bruno Fernandes who also had a great game, but later on, Amad was involved again when Lisandro Martinez lobbed a beautiful pass upfront, which was reached brilliantly by the Ivorian forward who beat Ederson and put the ball into the net where Gvardiol despite his best attempts, couldn’t stop it from going in. Overall, the young forward had a great game against United’s top rivals and he will be looking to carry this form onto the next game.
