As rain threat looms on Day 5 of Brisbane Test, will downpour help India avoid loss

New Delhi: With KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s powerful knocks the only silver lining in India’s batting in reply to Australia’s massive first-innings score of 445 runs, the visitors would be relying on rain to play a spoilsport on the fifth and final day on Wednesday to avoid a big loss. India entangled themselves in a precarious position after batting disasters on the third and fourth day, with Rahul and Jadeja standing tall with gritty half-centuries on Tuesday.

The Brisbane Test had been marred by rain since the first day and on the fourth day as well, only 58 overs were possible out of the total 90, as match took place in bits and pieces. In total, only 192 overs have been bowled in the third Test match in four days and with just a day remaining in the game, Team India would be hoping for further downpour which is the only way they can avoid a big defeat.

Weather prediction for 5th day

As per Australia’s meteorology department, there are high chances of rain and thunderstorms predicted on Wednesday, which is the final day of the Test match. The prediction further says that rain will play a spoilsport in the morning and the afternoon hours, with some thunderstorms also disturbing the play. The scenario favours current Indian position as the visitors ended the day at 252/9, still trailing Australia by 193 runs.

Jadeja’s 77, Rahul’s 84, Akash Deep’s 27 and Jasprit Bumrah’s 10 runs helped India avoid the follow-on, which also seemed like a far-fetched target. On the final day, where 98 overs are supposed to be bowled due to the loss of play on Day 4, Australia would be wanting to remove the last Indian wickets as soon as possible and with a considerable lead in hand, they will look at accumulating some quick runs to set India a target of around 300.

If all goes well and the play is played without any interruption, it be an improbable task for India to chase the huge score, considering their recent dip in batting and a lethal bowling attack of the Australians. The visitors would find it difficult to save the wickets for the entire day almost so they would be hoping for rain to play a saviour in their cause.

KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s powerful knocks proved to be the only silver lining in India’s batting on the fourth day of the Brisbane Test against Australia.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
